CHARLESTON, South Carolina — Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams is joining younger sister Serena in playing at the Family Circle Cup in April.
Serena Williams had announced in October that she would try for a third-straight title at the clay-court event. Tournament organizers announced Venus Williams' entry on Thursday.
Venus Williams will play for a seventh time in Charleston, where a year ago she lost to Serena in the semifinals. It was the sisters' first singles match since 2009.
Venus Williams said the tournament and venue have been special to her. She was part of the Washington Kastles' when they clinched the World Team Tennis title in Charleston two years ago.
The Family Circle is scheduled for March 31-April 6.
