Construction crews hit natural gas line in western Sioux Falls; energy company repairing it

SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota — An Iowa-based energy company says a gas leak closed off a section of a street in western Sioux Falls Wednesday and forced some local businesses to evacuate the area.

MidAmerican Energy tells KDLT-TV that shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday construction crews hit a natural gas main at the intersection of 41st Street and Sertoma.

A MidAmerican Energy spokeswoman says the line was capped quickly, so the leak was under control soon after it started.

Several businesses and homes were evacuated.

Crews from MidAmerican Energy were repairing the line by the early afternoon.
