Last of 2 defendants plead and are sentenced in shooting death of NC college student


WILMINGTON, North Carolina — The final two defendants have pleaded guilty and have been sentenced in the robbery and shooting death of a Cape Fear Community College student.

Joshua Proutey was shot in the head in December of 2012 after he was robbed of a sandwich, his cellphone and $10.

On Thursday 19-year-old Daniel Henry and his girlfriend Jasmine Dottin each pleaded guilty in New Hanover County Court to second-degree murder and other charges. Each was sentenced to more than 25 years in prison.

Two other defendants earlier pleaded guilty. One is serving a life sentence while the other was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
