HAMBURG, New York — Authorities say a 59-year-old man has died in a fire at a home outside Buffalo.

Fire officials in the Erie County town of Hamburg say the blaze was reported by a neighbor late Thursday night. When firefighters arrived they found a room in the back of the house was burning.

While battling the blaze, firefighters found a man dead in a back bedroom. Fire officials say he was the only person inside the house. Authorities identified him Friday morning as Michael McLennan. Investigators say it appears he was overcome by smoke.

The investigation into the fire's cause is ongoing.
