Tim Cahill's late header gives New York Red Bulls a 1-0 win over Galaxy in MLS

HARRISON, New Jersey — Tim Cahill's header in stoppage time gave New York a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy 1-0 on Sunday, helping the Red Bulls maintain top spot in the MLS eastern conference.

The Red Bulls won for the fifth time in six games when Australian international Cahill leaped to a Juninho free kick and nodded in from close range for his fourth goal of the season.

In other results, Sporting Kansas City was held to a 1-1 draw by D.C. United in a match between the eastern conference's second-place and last-place teams, and Real Salt Lake had a 4-1 win over Chivas USA in a match between the second- and the last-place teams in the western conference.

At Washington, Kyle Porter scored the first goal of his MLS career in the 65th minute to help D.C. United earn a draw and end a seven-game losing streak.

Sporting KC took a lead on the hour via a D.C. United own goal from a corner. Porter equalized with a sliding finish to Chris Pontius's curling cross from the right.

At Carson, California, Ned Grabavoy scored in the fourth and 90th minutes to help Real Salt Lake to its third win in four matches.

Joao Plata and Robbie Findley also scored in the second half for RSL, with Chivas getting a consolation in the 55th when Jorge Villafana headed in Edgar Mejia's cross from the right.
