Mason City man pleads guilty in federal court to child pornography charges

MASON CITY, Iowa — A 40-year-old man from Mason City has pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of sexually exploiting a child and possessing child pornography.

The Mason City Globe Gazette (http://bit.ly/1KrMY5A ) reports Michael Jones admitted on Thursday in the Cedar Rapids court that he exploited a child in April 2013 by creating sexual depictions of that child.

He also admitted that between April 2013 and September 2014 that he possessed child porn.

Sentencing will be sent after a pre-sentence report is prepared.

Jones will remain in custody of the U.S. Marshal Service until his sentence hearing.

He faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and maximum possible sentence of 40 years in prison, a $500,000 fine and a supervised released for five years to life following his release.
