ARLINGTON, Texas — Shawn Long scored a career-high 31 points as Louisiana-Lafayette held on for a 92-89 win over Texas-Arlington on Thursday night.
Louisiana-Lafayette (14-9, 5-5 Sun Belt Conference) went on a 29-3 run in the first half — at one point scoring 19 straight — to build a 40-15 lead.
The Ragin' Cajuns led by as many as 20 in the second half and were up 85-70 with less than 3 minutes to play but Texas-Arlington (9-13, 4-6) made a furious comeback, going on a 19-6 run to cut its deficit to 91-89 with 1.8 seconds left
Louisiana-Lafayette hit a free throw with 1.1 seconds remaining and missed the second, but the ball went out of bounds as time expired.
Lonnie McClanahan had 31 points for Texas-Arlington.
