BRATTLEBORO, Vermont — The 140-year-old Brooks House in Brattleboro, Vermont, which is being renovated after a fire damaged the building in 2011, is expected to be ready for its first tenants soon.

The building in the center of town has been undergoing a $24 million redevelopment project.

Vermont Public Radio reports (http://bit.ly/1lNkDH8) Vermont Technical College and the Community College of Vermont plan to open classrooms and offices in the building in early August.

Space has been leased to a restaurant, a yogurt shop, jewelry store and others. Many of its apartments have been spoken for.

The former hotel had housed 60 residential tenants and a dozen shops when it was gutted by the fire.
