BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Birmingham police are investigating the killing of man who was found with gunshot wounds on the front porch of a home.

Police said in a statement on Sunday that officers were sent to an address on 19th Avenue North on Saturday night. They found that the victim had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say their preliminary investigation found that the man had gotten into "an intense argument" with another man over drugs. They say that during the argument, the victim tried to pull out a gun and the suspect responded by pulling out his gun and fired multiple times before fleeing the scene.

The victim's name wasn't immediately released.
