KINGMAN, Kansas — Jury selection begins Monday in the trial of a former Kansas police instructor charged with killing his wife.

The Wichita Eagle (http://bit.ly/13EsJwl ) reports that Brett Seacat is charged with first-degree murder in the April 2011 death of 34-year-old Vashti Seacat.

Investigators found her body after a fire damaged the Kingman home where the couple lived with their two sons, ages 2 and 4.

Brett Seacat escaped the home with the boys. He's a former instructor at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Reno County.

Vashti Seacat filed for divorce 16 days before she died.

Brett Seacat claimed she committed suicide. He faces life in prison without the possibility of parole for 50 years if he is convicted.
