ALPENA, Mich. — State prosecutors have failed to persuade a judge to reinstate a criminal charge against the prosecutor in Presque Isle County.
Richard Steiger was accused of doctor shopping to get painkillers. Circuit Judge Michael Mack says there's evidence that Steiger's two doctors should have been aware of his prescriptions.
He tells The Alpena News he was confident that he would be cleared.
Mack affirmed the decision of another judge to dismiss the case. Steiger had been charged by the Michigan attorney general's office. He tells The Alpena News (http://bit.ly/JeBtB6 ) he was confident that he would be cleared.
Steiger has a history of health woes, including arthritis, chronic headaches and sinus problems. The investigation began with a complaint from his former wife.
