ST. LOUIS — A Friday afternoon collision between an SUV and a school bus on Interstate 64 in St. Louis left several students from an Okawville, Illinois elementary school with injuries.

City police and fire officials say the accident happened when the eastbound bus collided with the other vehicle shortly after 2 p.m. on the highway east of Compton Avenue. KMOV-TV (bit.ly/1tAaIPg ) reports that the bus was transporting about 50 students back to Washington County, Illinois from a second-grade field trip to the Butterfly House in Chesterfield.

A school official told the TV station that five or six children suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.

Okawville is located about 40 miles southeast of St. Louis.
