YORK, Pennsylvania — Authorities say a man who got out of a vehicle after it apparently broke down on a central Pennsylvania interstate was struck and killed by a passing tractor-trailer.

State police said the accident happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 83 in York County's Manchester Township.

Trooper Robert Hicks said the man stopped on the east side shoulder of the interstate and was hit by the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name wasn't immediately released pending notification of relatives.

Police said the truck driver stopped and is cooperating with the investigation. Anyone with information about the accident is being asked to call state police in York.
