Man charged with armed robbery of Del. cigarette store

NEWARK, Delaware — Newark Police have charged a man they say robbed a cigarette store.

Twenty-eight-year-old Russell Messick surrendered to police Thursday morning. He has been charged with robbery and other offenses.

Officers say on March 23, Messick entered the State Line Cigarette Outlet on Elkton Road. Police say he was wearing a mask.

Authorities say Messick approached a clerk and lifted up his shirt to show a handgun and a knife clipped to his pocket.

Police say Messick told the clerk to open the cash register. Officers say when the clerk did, Messick grabbed cash and fled the store in a car.
