Trial postponed for Saudi Arabia air force sergeant in Las Vegas Strip child sex assault case

LAS VEGAS — Trial has been postponed in Nevada for a Saudi Arabia air force sergeant accused of abducting and raping a 13-year-old boy at a Las Vegas Strip hotel on New Year's Eve.

Defense attorney Don Chairez (shar-EHZ') said Thursday that a state judge plans next week to reschedule trial for Mazen Alotaibi (MAH'-zen ah-loh-TAH'-bee).

Chairez says he needs more time to gather information in the case and told the judge he wasn't ready to start Monday.

Alotaibi remains jailed on $1.72 million bail.

He's charged with kidnapping, sexual assault of a minor under 14, lewdness with a child, coercion and burglary.

Chairez says he doesn't believe the boy's claim that he was forced into a room and raped early Dec. 31 at the Circus-Circus hotel-casino.
