PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia man has been ordered to stand trial held for the slayings of a mother and son found dead in their burned-out apartment.
Firefighters found the bodies of 35-year-old Atlanta Deveney and 12-year-old Elijah Rosado on Oct. 5 under a smoldering mattress in their apartment closet in the city's Wissinoming neighborhood.
The Philadelphia Inquirer (http://bit.ly/1cMO6xX) said 26-year-old Carlos Rivera was ordered held without bail Tuesday after the judge heard a police statement in which the defendant admitted strangling "the love of my life" and stabbing her son in a "blind rage" after an argument.
Defense attorney Richard Giuliani said his client has a "significant history of mental health issues" that he planned to develop as a defense.
