WALTERBORO, South Carolina — One man has died and five others were hurt in a shooting in Colleton County.

Sheriff's Lt. Amye Stivender told local media that the shooting happened around 7 a.m. Sunday.

Coroner Richard Harvey said 27-year-old Elijah Michael of Walterboro died at the scene from several gunshot wounds.

Fire and Rescue Director Barry McRoy said two of those wounded were taken to a local emergency room by a private vehicle before deputies arrived at the scene. McRoy said gunfire near the scene kept rescue units away for several minutes.

Two of those injured were transferred to the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston. A third person was taken to Trident Medical Center. The other two were treated at Colleton medical Center.

No arrests have been reported.
