Long Island man pleads not guilty in the beating death of his girlfriend's toddler

MINEOLA, New York — A Long Island man has pleaded not guilty in the beating death of his girlfriend's toddler last month.

Newsday reports ( ) 26-year-old Lord Pardo was arraigned Monday and held without bail on charges of second-degree murder, two new counts of first-degree manslaughter and one new count of second-degree manslaughter.

Pardo's attorney, Jeff Groder, entered the plea and says the allegations are "obviously heinous."

Authorities say the Uniondale factory worker was caring for 18-month-old Mason Robinson on Oct. 11 when the child was hurt.

The boy was taken to a hospital, where authorities found he had suffered a fractured skull, broken ribs and a lacerated liver and lung.

Pardo was taken into custody on Oct. 12. He is due back in court on Dec. 16.
