Cincinnati streetcar service could change future locations of Oktoberfest, Taste of Cincinnati

CINCINNATI — A new streetcar service being built in Cincinnati could change the location of the city's most popular parades and festivals.

WCPO-TV ( ) reports the city implemented a guideline in 2014 stating that "no special event will be permitted to ...disrupt or infringe upon streetcar service".

The $148 million urban circulator is expected to run through the same streets that people occupy during Oktoberfest and The Taste of Cincinnati. These are two of the region's biggest festivals and draw more than 500,000 people downtown.

The city's project executive who is in charge of the streetcar service tells the station that event sponsors and the city manager are working to move the locations off of the streetcar route.

The streetcar service is slated to open in 2016.
