Kentucky coach Mark Stoops 'furious' at Wildcats RB Kemp over trash talk about Florida

LEXINGTON, Kentucky — Kentucky coach Mark Stoops was "furious" running back Jojo Kemp predicted a victory over the Florida Gators and "rubbing it in their faces."

Florida's 27-game winning streak over the Wildcats didn't stop Kemp from talking trash ahead of Saturday's Southeastern Conference opener. The sophomore from DeLand, Florida, told the Louisville Courier-Journal Tuesday that "it's going to be fun walking out with a victory and rubbing it in their faces."

Stoops said on Wednesday's conference call that he was "outraged and I talked to him about it. ... He was trying to make light of some friends he has on this program but like I told him yesterday, 'you think they're gonna hear all that? They're gonna hear the last five seconds of what you said.' "

Kentucky (2-0) hasn't beaten Florida (1-0) since 1986 (10-3 in Lexington) and last won in Gainesville 31-3 in 1979.

The Gators brushed off Kemp's comments for the most part. Linebacker Michael Taylor said he didn't believe it would provide extra motivation, considering Florida already had incentive to rebound from a 4-8 finish last season.

Cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III said he hadn't seen Kemp's remarks but had heard about them. He added that his focus was on the game.

But when asked if he'd keep those comments in mind for later, Hargreaves said, "yeah, I guess so. At the end if we beat them, it's a little something to rub in his face. We're not looking too much into it."
