White Sox claim 1B McDade on waivers from Cleveland, RHP Floyd has surgery

NEW YORK — The Chicago White Sox have claimed first baseman Mike McDade off waivers from Cleveland.

The White Sox made the move Tuesday and optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte.

McDade turns 24 on Wednesday. The switch-hitter batted .230 with seven RBIs for Triple-A Columbus.

The White Sox also transferred righty Gavin Floyd to the 60-day disabled list. Floyd had season-ending elbow surgery Tuesday in New York to repair the ulnar collateral ligament and a torn flexor muscle. He is expected to miss 14 to 19 months.

Also, outfielder Dayan Viciedo and lefty John Danks began rehabilitation assignments with Charlotte. Viciedo has been out because of a strain on his left side and Danks is recovering from shoulder surgery.
