BROOKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Michigan — A new wind farm in Huron County is expected to start making power next month.
The Huron Daily Tribune of Bad Axe reports (http://bit.ly/I4Ywjr ) NextEra Energy's Pheasant Run Wind Project is being built in Brookfield, Fairhaven, Grant, Oliver, Sebewaing and Winsor townships. About half of the project's 88 turbines are to start spinning Nov. 27 ahead of the Dec. 5 start of commercial production.
That's the project's first phase. The second phase is expected to begin commercial operation on Feb. 15.
The wind turbines are being built in an area roughly 95 miles north of Detroit. When it's fully operational, it's expected to be Huron County's largest wind farm.
With construction wrapping up, NextEra says trucks hauling massive turbine blades in the area will soon be seen less often.
