Authorities say a pedestrian has been killed crossing a street in West Des Moines

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Authorities say a pedestrian has been killed crossing a street in West Des Moines.

The accident was reported a little before 7 p.m. Monday. Police say a westbound vehicle struck a person crossing in the 7000 block of Ashworth Road. There are no traffic control devices or crosswalks where the accident occurred.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. No name is being released until relatives are notified about the accident.

Police say the vehicle driver was not hurt. He was identified as 55-year-old Robert Irving, of Urbandale. Police say a preliminary investigation shows Irving violated no traffic laws.
