State Farm ends affiliation with former SC House Speaker Bobby Harrell after 34 years

CHARLESTON, South Carolina — State Farm says it is ending its affiliation with former South Carolina House Speaker Bobby Harrell after 34 years.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports ( Harrell said he learned his contract was being ended in a letter left on his doorstep last week. He said the letter gave him 15 hours notice.

Harrell pleaded guilty last month to six campaign finance violations, all misdemeanors. Prosecutors said Harrell improperly used campaign money to pay for flights on his private plane. He said his status came up during a follow-up meeting with a State Farm official.

Harrell's father, Bob Harrell Sr., worked for State Farm for 47 years

A spokeswoman for the S.C. Department of Insurance confirmed Thursday that Harrell's state-issued insurance license remains under review by the agency.
