Inmate dies after illness at Delaware prison; was serving life sentence for rape

SMYRNA, Delaware — Corrections officials say an inmate has died at a Delaware prison after a long illness.

The Department of Correction said in a news release that 58-year-old Joseph J. Bostic of Harrington died Monday in the infirmary at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna. Officials say he was serving a life term for rape and had been sentenced in 1986.

Authorities say foul place is not suspected. His body has been turned over to the medical examiner's office, as is standard procedure.
