Vermont 8th grader wins state level Geographic Bee; to compete in national finals

MIDDLEBURY, Vermont — A Vermont eighth-grader from Essex Middle School will be heading to Washington, D.C., next month to compete in the National Geographic Bee.

Nicholas "Nick" Norton won the state level competition on Friday in which nearly 80 students from around Vermont competed at Middlebury College.

He won $100 and a paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the national finals May 19 to 21.

The national winner will receive a $50,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
