Trial delayed until September for former student accused of attacking Iowa City officer

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The trial of a former University of Iowa student accused of attacking an Iowa City police officer has been delayed until Sept. 14.

Twenty-one-year-old Branden Plummer is charged with attempted murder and willful injury in the attack on Sgt. Brian Krei on Nov. 18.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (http://icp-c.com/JJqTRN ) that the trial had been scheduled to begin May 14, but a judge granted a defense request for the delay.

The trial will be held in Tama County because of concerns about finding a fair jury in Johnson County.

Plummer has pleaded not guilty.

He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted of both offenses.
