Vermont lawmakers on campaign finance: Wait until 2014

MONTPELIER, Vermont — Vermont lawmakers are not expected to have new campaign contribution limits in place in advance of the 2014 election.

That was the word from Sen. Jeanette White, chairwoman of the Senate Operations Committee, after the House and Senate failed to agree on terms of a campaign finance bill.

White says she's disappointed, but that the conference committee can continue meeting in January and perhaps put some of the new reporting requirements contained in the bill in place before the 2014 election.

Secretary of State Jim Condos says the losers with Tuesday's outcome are the voters of Vermont.
