SPRINGFIELD, Illinois — State officials say Illinois saw a record number of domestic visitors last year.

Officials with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity say data show Illinois had more than 107 million domestic travelers in 2014. That's a 3.8 percent increase over 2013.

State officials say the increase also means revenue from the hotel-motel tax went up too. The figure rose 6.4 percent to more than $250 million collected.

Numbers show that leisure travel saw strong growth last year. Day trips and overnight leisure travel rose 4.3 percent in 2014 from 2013. The numbers were released Thursday.
