Authorities: Crash wreckage of small plane that vanished from radar found in Georgia, 2 dead


VALDOSTA, Georgia — Authorities have located the wreckage of a small plane that had disappeared from radar in rural Georgia.

WCTV ( ) reports that the Thomas County Sheriff's Office says the wreckage was found Monday evening near the community of Climax. The sheriff's office told the station that the two people on board the aircraft were killed.

The Federal Aviation Administration had issued an alert Monday morning after air traffic controllers lost contact with the Cessna 441 aircraft that had taken off in Florida.

The plane had departed Monday morning from Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Florida. The FAA said air traffic controllers lost contact with the flight in southern Georgia.
