DA to seek death penalty against western Pa. man awaiting trial in fatal stabbing of ex

WASHINGTON, Pa. — A western Pennsylvania prosecutor will pursue the death penalty against a man charged with fatally stabbing his estranged girlfriend whose naked body was found in the woods the day after her family reported her missing.

Washington County District Attorney Gene Vittone announced his intentions at the formal arraignment Tuesday of 23-year-old Jordan Clemons, of Pittsburgh.

He's charged with killing 21-year-old Karissa Kunco who was reported missing Jan. 11 from Baldwin, Allegheny County. Her body was later found in a wooded area near Mount Pleasant, Washington County, southwest of Pittsburgh, and her car found crashed into a tree about six miles away.

Police charged Clemons after his friend told them Clemons called saying, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. She's dead," a few hours before Kunco's body was found."

Clemons has pleaded not guilty.
