Iberville Parish School Board votes to borrow up to $6M to pay for new construction projects


PLAQUEMINE, Louisiana — The Iberville Parish School Board is moving forward with a plan to borrow up to $6 million to help pay for more than $11 million worth of new construction projects planned across the district.

The Advocate reports ( ) the board voted 12-1 Monday to sell up to $6 million in revenue bonds to be repaid in 14 years through a property tax approved in 2008.

Facilities director Patrick Norris told the board that portions of the borrowed money would be used to construct a gymnasium/arts building at the Math, Science and Arts Academy-East campus and to build a new weight room and renovate the gymnasium at East Iberville High.
