NYPD: Police capture prisoner who escaped police custody, took off in unmarked police vehicle

Share/Save/Bookmark

NEW YORK — A drug suspect who escaped from police custody and struck an officer with a vehicle in Queens has been captured.

Police say 38-year-old Bryan McMenamin was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon. He had been arrested earlier on charges of selling drugs. It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer.

Police say the handcuffed McMenamin had somehow gotten control of the unmarked police vehicle while the officers made a stop at 59th Street and Cooper Avenue in Glendale on Monday.

One of the officers was injured in the leg as he tried to prevent the vehicle from getting away.

The detective was hospitalized and is expected to be OK.
