Man perishes in house fire in southeastern Ohio; cause of blaze not yet determined


BUCHTEL, Ohio — Authorities say a man has been killed in a house fire in rural southeastern Ohio.

The Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the Thursday morning blaze that destroyed the house in the village of Buchtel in Hocking County, about 65 miles southeast of Columbus.

The Athens Messenger ( ) reports that firefighters from multiple agencies responded to the call just before dawn.

The victim's body was taken to the coroner's office in Columbus. His name hasn't been released.

Logan Fire Chief Brian Robertson tells the newspaper that the victim's wife was able to get out of the house safely.

The cause of the fire hasn't been determined.
