Sergio Bonaldi of Italy, Holly Brooks of Alaska wins American Birkebeiner

HAYWARD, Wisconsin — Sergio Bonaldi of Italy won the 42nd American Birkebeiner for the men and Holly Brooks from Anchorage, Alaska won the women's race.

They had both won the 51-kilometer main race from Cable to Hayward before: Bonaldi in 2013 and Brooks in 2012. Bonaldi earned second place in 2014.

In the 55-kilometer Birkie classic, Natalia Naryshkina won the women's race on Saturday and Ole Christian Mork won the men's title.

The Birkie is billed as North America's largest Nordic ski race. Skiers from around the world compete.
