40-year-old Mason City man indicted by federal grand jury on 4 counts in child sex case


MASON CITY, Iowa — A Mason City man has been charged with sexually exploiting children and having child pornography.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports ( ) that 40-year-old Michael Jones was indicted by a federal grand jury on Thursday for three counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of possession of child pornography.

According to the indictment unsealed Friday, Jones persuaded or enticed someone younger than 18 to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of making pictures and video of the activity.

The alleged incidents happened on April 5, 2013.

His first court appearance is set for Monday in U.S. District Court.

A phone number for Jones could not be found Saturday.
