MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — A man described as a leader of a prescription-drug trafficking operation in which pills were obtained from pharmacies in seven states has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Authorities have said that the majority of 12 people indicted earlier this year traveled to Florida to obtain the prescriptions.

Knox County Prosecutor Chip McConville said defendant Christopher Matheson was charged as one of the leaders of a drug ring that brought more than 80,000 pills with a street value of almost $2 million into Knox County.

Matheson is the ninth of twelve defendants to be sentenced in the pill ring cases. He was also sentenced to 17 months for a probation violation from a previous case, to run at the same time. A message was left with his attorney.
