Aurora police shoot, kill man who attacked officer, stole cruiser

AURORA, Colorado — Police shot and killed a man they say attacked an officer with a sharp object and led authorities on a chase during an early morning snowstorm in Aurora.

The Aurora Sentinel reports ( ) an officer stopped to check on what he thought was a stalled car early Monday morning. Investigators say the man in the car attacked the officer as he was walking back to his patrol car, leaving a deep cut on the officer's head. The suspect, whose name has not been released, then stole the patrol car.

The ensuing chase ended when the vehicle was rammed by another patrol car.

Two officers shot the man, who they say was holding a dark object and was refusing their orders.

Police Chief Nick Metz says the attack on the officer amounted to attempted murder.
