EASTON, Pennsylvania — An eastern Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to 25 to 60 years in state prison for a brutal assault that killed his mother and injured his father.
Fifty-two-year-old Michael Lindgren pleaded guilty but mentally ill in the August 2012 attack that killed 77-year-old Shirley Lindgren and severely injured 78-year-old John Lindgren inside their Bethlehem home.
Northampton County Judge Michael Koury on Wednesday sentenced Lindgren to the maximum allowable prison term. But the judge said Lindgren will remain in in a state psychiatric facility until he is deemed stable enough to be held in a normal prison.
Family members testified that they blamed Lindgren's psychologist for not properly treating his mental illness.
