Bond for suspect in Saturday's death of Hattiesburg man set at $1 million

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — Bond for the suspect in Saturday's death of a Hattiesburg man has been set at $1 million.

Police say no motive has been determined in the slaying of 34-year-old Phillip Mattar.

Police tell The Hattiesburg American (http://hatne.ws/1pWtpLj) a 21-year-old Meridian man remains in the Forrest County jail on a first-degree murder charge.

Michael Joseph Sullivan Jr. was arrested about 11:20 a.m. Saturday in connection with Mattar's slaying.

Forrest County Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem said the cause of death has not been determined, pending results of an autopsy.

The death remains under investigation.
