LEWISBURG, W.Va. — The State Fair of West Virginia is an economic engine as well as a festival celebrating agricuture.
A recent study says the 2011 edition of the fair added $13.8 million to the state's economy.
The fair's home county, Greenbrier, received the largest benefit. Greenbrier County's economy received an economic boost of almost $10 million from the fair.
The study by Enigma Research Corp. says 70 percent of the people who attended the nine-day event in Fairlea were from outside Greenbrier County.
The study didn't include activities held at the State Fair Event Center throughout the year.
This year's fair will be held Aug. 10 through Aug. 18.
