MILFORD, Connecticut — A driver who struck and killed two pedestrians on a snowy street in Milford last year has been sentenced to 3½ years in prison.

Court records show James Dorso II of Milford was sentenced Wednesday in Milford Superior Court. He initially was charged with manslaughter and reckless driving, but pleaded guilty to two counts of felony misconduct with a motor vehicle. Dorso's sentencing was first reported by the Milford Mirror.

Police said Dorso's SUV struck a family walking along Route 1 in February 2013. Authorities say sidewalks on both sides of the street were covered with snow following a blizzard.

Fifty-three-year-old Kevin Tanski died two days after the accident. His wife, 51-year-old Brenda Tanski, died five days afterward. Their 21-year-old daughter suffered minor injuries and a fourth relative wasn't injured.
