M/S Mount Washington readies for season with annual "shakedown cruise"

LACONIA, New Hampshire — The M/S Mount Washington tourist ship is ready for her 141st season.

The ship's annual "shakedown cruise" to make sure everything is in order happened Monday on Lake Winnipesaukee.

The original steam-powered S.S. Mount Washington started cruising the lake in1872. The current ship has been around for 66 years and runs on environmentally friendly engines.

The first public cruises will be on Mother's Day, May 12. The season runs through October.
