Man linked to bloody mattress charged with murder

HASTINGS, Michigan — A western Michigan man found with a bloody mattress in his pickup truck nearly two years ago has been charged with murder.

Harold Ordway has been under scrutiny since September 2011 when officers arrived at a crash in Allegan County and found a mattress with fresh blood in the bed of his pickup.

Ordway was charged Tuesday in Barry County in the fatal shooting of Paul Atchley, who was living with Ordway and has been missing since summer 2011. The remains of another man, Michael VanBuskirk, were found in Kalamazoo County.

Ordway has been linked to VanBuskirk but hasn't been charged.

He's scheduled to be sentenced for a gun crime in Grand Rapids federal court on June 24. A message seeking comment was left for his attorney.
