Second man dies after triple shooting in Athens; investigation ongoing


ATHENS, Tennessee — Authorities say a second person has died after in a triple shooting in Athens.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press ( reports that 37-year-old Matthew A. Moore died Tuesday after undergoing surgeries. Another man, 40-year-old Rendell Correy Jones, died Saturday shortly after the shooting.

A third man, 47-year-old Tim White, was recovering after being treated at a hospital for gunshot wounds.

Athens Police Department Detective Sgt. Fred Schultz says it appears the shooting involved only the three men. Police are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting and the number of weapons involved.

Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are assisting local police.
