PENSACOLA, Florida — A Florida Panhandle man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting another man during a fight.

An Escambia County judge sentenced 22-year-old Damarcus Jenkins on Friday. He was convicted last month of second-degree murder.

Authorities say Michael Harris and his girlfriend were arguing near the Casino Beach parking lot on Pensacola Beach in 2013 when Jenkins tried to intervene. The two men started arguing and then Jenkins pulled a gun and shot Harris multiple times.

The Pensacola News Journal (http://goo.gl/zjiWeV ) reports that Jenkins' attorney asked the judge to consider mitigating factors, such as the fact that both men were highly intoxicated and that Jenkins thought he was acting in self-defense.
