Vicksburg-Warren School District to offer engineering, health academies

VICKSBURG, Mississippi — The Vicksburg Warren School District will offer courses this fall to prepare students for college or careers in engineering and health.

Superintendent Chad Shealy tells The Vicksburg Post ( that courses will be offered at both Vicksburg High School and Warren Central High School.

Shealy says the district hired a program director, Lucy DeRossette, to plan the academies.

He says the district has received support from the state Department of Education.

Shealy says there are talks going on with Alcorn State, Mississippi State, University of Mississippi, Delta State and Hinds Community College about adding more opportunities for students to get college credits.
