Indiana police say gunman holding unknown number of hostages inside real estate office

Mason City man faces up to 7 years in prison on charges resulting from biting officer on thumb

MASON CITY, Iowa — A 29-year-old Mason City man who bit a Mason City police officer faces up to seven years in prison when he's sentenced next month.

At a plea change hearing on Tuesday, Jon Ramon pleaded guilty to felony assault on an officer with intent to inflict serious injury and to misdemeanor criminal mischief.

Officers say Ramon bit Lt. Logan Wernet on one of his thumbs when they took Ramon into custody on Dec. 14.

The Mason City Globe Gazette says (http://bit.ly/IlLrvf ) Ramon faces up to five years for the assault and up to two years for the criminal mischief.

The sentencing is scheduled for June 18 in Cerro Gordo County District Court.
