Detroit Red Wings open 2014-15 NHL regular season at home against Boston Bruins

DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings will open the upcoming 2014-15 NHL season at home against the Boston Bruins.

The team released its regular season schedule Sunday. Opening night is Oct. 9 at Joe Louis Arena.

Detroit's first three games will be at home. The Red Wings also will play 19 games against the Original Six franchises, including five games each against Toronto and Boston.

The Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings visit Joe Louis Arena on Oct. 31. Detroit also hosts the Chicago Black Hawks on Nov. 14.

Eight of Detroit's final 12 games of the season will be played at home.

Single-game tickets go on sale Aug. 22.
