BARTOW, Florida — A central Florida man has been convicted in a fatal drug robbery.

A Polk County jury found 30-year-old Vartius Montgomery guilty Tuesday of first-degree murder. He faces a mandatory life sentence.

Prosecutors say Montgomery, Kaitlin Kovecses and Antonio McClain had arranged to buy drugs from Gracia Rosius in an attempt to rob him in February 2012. After meeting in Lakeland, the four were supposed to drive to Winter Haven to get money from McClain's girlfriend. When Rosius grew impatient and called his sister, authorities say Montgomery and McClain attacked Rosius.

Prosecutors say Montgomery became angry after finding only three pills on Rosius and shot the other man six times. Montgomery's attorney told jurors that McClain was shooter.

The Ledger (http://goo.gl/CMQZLv ) reports that McClain also faces a first-degree murder charge, and Kovecses faces burglary and grand theft charges.
